Job Description: Industrial Designer (Hardware & Robotics)
We are seeking a hands-on, highly creative Industrial Designer to own the visual identity, enclosure architecture, field ergonomics, and physical aesthetics of Taypro’s next-generation autonomous solar panel cleaning robots and field support hardware. You will bridge R&D, mechanical engineering, and vendor fabrication to deliver rugged, lightweight, weatherproof systems built to withstand extreme heat, sandstorms, and continuous outdoor operation.
Key Responsibilities
1. Enclosure Architecture & Visual Design
- Design sleek, rugged, IP65+ rated protective covers, chassis cowlings, and structural profiles for autonomous robots.
- Harmonize aesthetics, functionality, and aerodynamic/dust-deflection principles into clean industrial design languages.
- Define and maintain Taypro’s hardware CMF (Color, Material, Finish) standards across all product lines.
2. Field Ergonomics & Serviceability
- Design quick-swap battery mechanisms, ergonomic lift points, handles, and modular mounting interfaces for field site technicians.
- Ensure field-serviceable access panels for motors, sensors, and electronic control units (ECUs) without requiring specialized shop tools.
- Conduct human factors studies to optimize weight distribution, carrying comfort, and site safety.
3. Materials, CMF & Weatherization Specs
- Select UV-stabilized plastics, corrosion-resistant anodized aluminum alloys, and high-durability powder coatings.
- Architect thermal management airflow vents and sealing gaskets for IP65/IP67 ingress protection against sand and torrential rain.
4. Design for Manufacturing (DFM/DFA) & Tooling Support
- Collaborate closely with mechanical engineers and fabrication vendors to adapt design concepts to sheet metal fabrication, thermoforming, injection molding, and aluminum extrusion.
- Optimize parts count, fasteners, and sub-assembly sequences to enable rapid mass manufacturing.
5. Prototyping & Physical Testing
- Build rapid 1:1 scale mockups using 3D printing (FDM/SLA), foam/clay modeling, and sheet metal test rigs.
- Validate fitment, clearances, aesthetics, and structural rigidity through hands-on prototype testing.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
- B.Des or M.Des in Industrial Design / Product Design (NID, IIT IDC, or top design institutes preferred).
- 2 to 5 years of proven experience in industrial product design, robotics, machinery, automotive, or outdoor hardware equipment.
Technical Mastery
- CAD & Surface Modeling: Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, Rhino, or Creo (Class-A surfacing & parametric modeling).
- Rendering & CMF: High expertise in KeyShot, Blender, or V-Ray for photorealistic marketing and executive reviews.
- Manufacturing Awareness: Strong working knowledge of sheet metal bending, plastic injection molding, thermoforming, CNC machining, and gasket sealing.
- Prototyping: Hands-on experience with 3D printers, shop tools, and rapid physical prototyping techniques.
